Here we go again—another naïve, reckless proposal from the Green Party, this time from nit-wit Matt MacFarlane, who thinks taxpayers should foot the bill for private land deals because he can’t come up with real solutions. This time, it’s the call for government to buy out an entire mobile home park to “protect residents.” What’s next? Are we going to purchase every single lot in PEI where residents face rising costs? Where does it end?
Housing is in crisis, no doubt about it. But this isn’t leadership—it’s pandering. MacFarlane’s plan sets a dangerous precedent that will cost Islanders millions, while doing nothing to address the actual problem: the lack of housing supply. Throwing taxpayer money at one village at a time is not a housing strategy; it’s a bailout mentality that will bleed this province dry.
Here’s the hard truth: PEI needs real development, not reckless spending. We need policies that incentivize builders to create more housing—affordable, sustainable, and scalable solutions—not political grandstanding that pushes the province further into financial ruin. PEI cannot afford to turn every housing challenge into a government buyout.
Want real change? Start cutting red tape, encourage private investment, and stop pretending government can fix everything with taxpayer money. Islanders deserve leadership, not pipe dreams.
